AA raised the cost of the lifetime pass to $3 million, and then finally stopped offering it in 2003. It was launched on May 1, 1981, and it remains the largest frequent flyer program with over 67 million members as of 2011.

The airline has extended its offer to waive change fees for customers who have booked flights through April 15, 2020.
